DURING MASS:
Preach about the Sacrament:
- You may want to answer implicit questions among some about the benefits of this Sacrament.
- You may want to address any concerns about celebrating the Sacrament (e.g., forgetting how to celebrate the sacrament, reassurance about the ‘seal’ of Confession, etc).
- Encourage the people to experience God’s mercy and healing through this sacramental celebration.
- Encourage parishioners to bring someone who has been away.
AT THE ENTRANCE OR NEAR THE CONFESSIONAL OR RECONCILIATION ROOM:
· Confession Guides: Brochures to help penitents prepare to celebrate the Sacrament. A black and white version suitable for duplication is available online at
www.WelcomeHomeToHealing.Org under “Parish Resources”. The password is ‘confession’.
· Information on Annulments: Guidance in navigating the annulment process is available on the website
www.WelcomeHomeToHealing.org; “Our Sunday Visitor” has great brochures,
Annulments and
Top 10 Reasons to Come Back to Church (1-800-348-2440).
· Holy Week and Easter parish liturgical schedule
· Information about parish Lenten liturgies and programs
· Information about R.C.I.A. and R.C.I.C. Parishes could provide information about their programs, especially for those Catholics who have not been Confirmed or if their children have been baptized but not catechized.
FOR THE CONFESSIONAL OR RECONCILIATION ROOM:
· Make readily available and visible several copies of the Act of Contrition and “How to Go to Confession” brochures available. You may want to put them in the form of signs visible to those who will celebrate “face-to-face” or those who choose to remain anonymous.
· Be sure to have an ample supply of tissues available for penitents.
HOSPITALITY:
· Provide for a sign outside the church building.
Lawn Signs in English and Spanish are available from Fr. Kevin Corcoran’s office. Also, clip-art is available on the program website:
www.WelcomeHomeToHealing.org under “Parish Resources.” The password is ‘confession’.
· Create a welcoming environment. An hour or so before confession turn on the lights and turn on the heat so it is warm. Turn lights on over the altar and tabernacle and light the candles.
